Air Canada Pilots Encouraged by Q2 2023 Strong Financial Report
OTTAWA—Today, Air Canada reported stronger-than-expected earnings for the second quarter of 2023, with an adjusted EBITDA of $1.220 billion, and strong revenue of $5.427 billion. The airline’s more than 5,000 pilots are encouraged by today’s announcement and remain fully invested in their company’s financial success. Represented by the Air Line Pilots Association, Int’l (ALPA), Air Canada pilots are a critical stakeholder in the airline’s well-being and future.
“Today’s earnings report makes clear that Air Canada is on the right track financially, thanks in large part to the sacrifices Air Canada pilots made throughout the pandemic and beyond. However, operationally the airline is falling short, and no one knows that better than our pilots and our passengers. Air Canada’s future success, both financially and operationally, will require the Company to recognize the value in its pilots and take steps to attract and retain experienced pilots in the flight deck to help the airline succeed,” said First Officer Charlene Hudy, chair of the Air Canada ALPA Master Executive Council (MEC).
The pilots are working with management at the negotiation table and look forward to achieving a historic contract that addresses quality of life, career progression, job security, and the wage gap between pilots in the United States and Canada. Air Canada pilots rise to the challenge of supporting a world-class global operation every single day operating flights for Canada’s largest airline and the country's flag carrier.
“Unity among all pilots is our greatest strength, and today, Air Canada pilots across the nation are unified with a strong voice. We’re proud of our profession and take our jobs of transporting our passengers safely to their destinations very seriously. Air Canada pilots have invested in our airline; it’s time for them to invest in us,” added Hudy.
Founded in 1931, ALPA is the world’s largest airline pilot union, representing more than 74,000 pilots at 42 airlines in the United States and Canada. Visit the ALPA website at www.alpa.org or follow us on Twitter @ALPAPilots.
