Cargojet Pilots Strengthen Job Security with DHL and Amazon Contract Extensions
HAMILTON, Ont.—Cargojet pilots, represented by the Air Line Pilots Association, Int'l (ALPA), welcomed the Company’s recent announcement of the extension of cargo contracts for DHL until 2033 and Amazon until 2029. These contracts account for nearly half of all Cargojet flying.
“These contract extensions are a direct result of our pilots’ skills and experience, which ensure more than 99% of on-time shipments to our customers,” said Cargojet Master Executive Council chair Captain Adam Brochu. “We recognize management’s efforts to develop sustainable business relationships with clients and appreciate our pilots, whose dedication allows the company to meet these commitments and, in turn, contribute to these contract renewals.”
Amazon will also have the option to renew the contract until March 31, 2031, while DHL has renewal options until March 31, 2037. Cargojet pilots are also in active negotiations with Cargojet Airways Ltd.
“While these contract extensions are welcome news, we understand that the sustainability and stability of these business relationships are dependent on a strong, qualified, and healthy pilot workforce. Besides negotiations on the terms and conditions of employment, our overall goal is to ensure the long-term success of our pilots and our Company.
“Our pilots are committed to delivering for our clients and airline. To maintain the trust of our clients and uphold our excellent performance standards, Cargojet management must acknowledge the critical value we bring to the operation and prioritize pilot retention and labour stability in our next collective agreement,” Captain Brochu concluded.
The Cargojet MEC, with the support of ALPA, looks forward to negotiating and producing a contract that the Cargojet membership can stand behind.
