ALPA Awards Sen. Tammy Duckworth “Pilot Partisan of the Year” During Annual Legislative Summit
WASHINGTON, D.C.— The Air Line Pilots Association, Int'l (ALPA) has awarded Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) its top legislative honor, Pilot Partisan of the Year. The award will be presented today during ALPA's annual Legislative Summit, where nearly 200 pilot volunteers will meet with lawmakers and their staff to discuss the importance of modernizing the Air Traffic Control system, updating antiquated mental health protocols for pilots and controllers, and the safety risks associated with reduced crew operations.
"Sen. Duckworth is one of the strongest champions for pilots in Congress," said Capt. Jason Ambrosi, ALPA president. "She has been a tireless advocate for safety and security across the airline industry. We appreciate Sen. Duckworth's exhaustive efforts to pass the pro-safety, pro-labor FAA Reauthorization Act of 2024, which is helping make our skies safer and our industry stronger. Thank you for being a champion to all ALPA pilots."
ALPA recognized Senator Duckworth for her steadfast commitment to aviation safety and security, and for advocating for the aviation workforce. Through her leadership position on the Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee's Subcommittee on Aviation, Space, and Innovation, Duckworth has been a staunch advocate for maintaining rigorous pilot-training requirements mandated by Congress.
