ALPA Canada Congratulates Mark Carney on Becoming the Liberal Party of Canada Leader
Airline Pilots Ready to Continue Working with Government to Protect Aviation Safety Rules and Worker Rights
OTTAWA, ONT.— Captain Tim Perry, president of the Air Line Pilots Association, Int’l (ALPA) Canada, today issued the following statement on Mark Carney becoming Canada’s Next Prime Minister:
“As part of the world’s largest nongovernmental aviation safety organization, ALPA Canada looks forward to working with incoming Prime Minister Mark Carney as we continue our focus on the safety of passengers and advancing the piloting profession.
“We strongly encourage Canada’s new government leaders to ensure ALPA Canada is part of any discussions on Canada’s aviation regulatory framework and the implementation of any aviation-specific policies, in particular Canada’s Flight-Time/Duty-Time Regulations.
“We will also continue to advocate in the strongest terms to safeguard the collective bargaining process to ensure it is free from any government intervention, so that any Parties to a labour dispute remain at the bargaining table and put in the hard work to come to a freely negotiated agreement.”
Founded in 1931, ALPA is the world's largest airline pilot union, representing more than 79,000 pilots at 42 airlines in the United States and Canada. Visit alpa.org or follow us on X @ALPAPilots.
