Hawaiian Airlines Pilots Elect Union Leadership

May 09, 2024

Dallas—This week, the Hawaiian Airlines (HAL) Master Executive Council (MEC) of the Air Line Pilots Association, Int’l (ALPA) met for its regular meeting in Dallas, Tex. The five members of the MEC voted, by unanimous consent, to elect the following officers to lead the pilot group for a two-year term, effective immediately and ending May 5, 2026:

  • MEC chair: Capt. Larry Payne
  • MEC vice chair: Capt. Rob Willoughby
  • MEC secretary-treasurer: Capt. Mathias Lundblad

“This is a strong officer group and one that will be charged with leading our pilots through a proposed merger with Alaska Air Group,” said Payne. “During this process, Hawaiian’s pilots will remain focused on providing safe and reliable service for our passengers and cargo throughout the Hawaiian Islands and across the globe.”

Payne was reelected to serve in the role of MEC chair, which he has held for the past five years. Willoughby is currently a member of the HAL Negotiating Committee and the Contract Clarification Team. Lundblad previously served as MEC vice chair from 2022 through 2024 and MEC secretary-treasurer from 2019 to 2022.

The HAL MEC represents more than 1,100 Hawaiian Airlines pilots who fly more than 150 daily flights between six Hawaiian Islands and connect Hawaii to 15 U.S. gateway cities, American Samoa, Australia, the Cook Islands, Japan, New Zealand, South Korea, and Tahiti.
