Jan 25, 2024

DENVER, Colo.—The voting members of the Frontier Airlines branch of the Air Line Pilots Association, Int’l (ALPA) have elected a new chair to their Master Executive Council (MEC) to lead the airline’s more than 2,000 pilots.

At its winter meeting, the MEC elected Capt. Michael Maynard as the new chair of the Frontier MEC. Capt. Maynard will replace current chair Capt. Tracy Smith, who is stepping down. Capt. Maynard will take office February 1 and will fill the remaining year of Capt. Smith’s term. Capt. Dan Reitzig and Capt. Dosh Hirao will remain in office as the MEC vice chair and secretary-treasurer, respectively.

Capt. Maynard has a long history of union service. An Atlanta-based captain, he currently chairs the MEC Scheduling Committee and has previously been elected as MEC vice chair and secretary-treasurer. He has also been a Milwaukee domicile vice chair, Chicago domicile chair, and secretary-treasurer of the Board of Directors of the Frontier Airline Pilots Association, the independent union that merged with ALPA in June 2016.

A graduate of the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse, Capt. Maynard worked for Great Lakes Airlines before joining Frontier in 2007. He lives in Peachtree City, Ga., with his wife (who is also a Frontier captain) and two daughters.
