Frontier Pilot Leaders Elect New Officer Team

TAMPA, Fla.—The voting members of the Frontier Airlines Master Executive Council (MEC) of the Air Line Pilots Association, Int’l (ALPA) have elected a new officer team to lead the airline’s more than 2,000 pilots.

Elected at the MEC’s winter meeting on February 15 were Capt. Tracy Smith, MEC chair; Capt. Daniel Reitzig, MEC vice chair; and First Officer Shawn Mullin, MEC secretary-treasurer. The officers will serve a two-year term that begins April 1.

Tracy Smith

Capt. Tracy Smith was reelected to a third term as MEC chair. He currently serves as MEC vice chair and will succeed Capt. Alan Christie, who chose not to run for reelection to commit more time to his family. An Airbus 320/321 captain based in Phoenix, Smith has been with Frontier since 2013. His previous union service includes stints as chair of Frontier’s Orlando Local Council 169, Negotiating Committee member at World Airlines, and Negotiating Committee member and local council chair at Air Wisconsin Airlines. He lives in Denver.

Daniel Reitzig

Capt. Daniel Reitzig was elected to the MEC as vice chair after serving in a number of ALPA committee positions at Frontier. A former bush pilot who also flew fixed-wing aircraft for Evergreen Helicopters of Alaska, he joined Frontier in 2016. He stood up and chaired the pilot group’s Membership Committee in 2017 and is a member of the ALPA national Membership Committee. He also serves as vice chair of the Frontier Government Affairs Committee and supports the Strategic Preparedness and Strike and Communications committees. A Philadelphia-based Airbus A320/321 captain, Reitzig lives in Wasilla, Alaska, with his wife and four children.

Shawn Mullin

First Officer Shawn Mullin was reelected to a second term as MEC secretary-treasurer. He joined Frontier in 2018 after working in corporate aviation and briefly at Spirit. He is a Las Vegas-based Airbus A320/321 pilot and also serves as secretary-treasurer for LAS Council 163. He lives in Las Vegas with his wife.
