FedEx Pilots Picket in Anchorage as Frustrations Grow over Contract Negotiations
ANCHORAGE—FedEx pilots, represented by the Air Line Pilots Association, Int’l (ALPA), stood in solidarity at an informational picketing event today in Anchorage to send a clear message to FedEx management that pilots are ready to conclude negotiations.
“FedEx pilots want a contract now. We have been at the negotiating table for nearly two years, and now is the time for FedEx to recognize the value we bring daily to the corporation,” said Capt. Chris Norman, chair of the FedEx Master Executive Council. “We set out to achieve a contract that our pilots would be proud to support. We will not forgo our goal for expediency. We remain steadfast in our commitment to achieve an agreement that represents our contributions to FedEx.”
ALPA and FedEx management have been in mediation with the National Mediation Board since November 2022. Negotiations began in May 2021. In April 2023, FedEx pilot leaders called for a strike authorization vote of the FedEx pilots, which, if approved, would permit FedEx Express pilots, in the absence of a new collectively bargained agreement, to withdraw their services when allowed by the National Mediation Board and if the pilot leaders decide it is necessary and appropriate. The strike authorization ballot closes on May 17 at 10 a.m. EDT.
