MONTREAL, QC – Today, Air Transat pilots, represented by the Air Line Pilots Association, Int’l (ALPA), commended the Company's record-breaking profitability in the third quarter. The Company's solid performance can be attributed to several factors, with the expertise and commitment of its pilots playing a pivotal role. In response, Capt. Bradley Small, chair of ALPA's Air Transat pilot group, issued the following statement.

"Air Transat's pilots played a crucial role in meeting the sustained demand for travel services and the resulting profits. As the world emerged from the COVID-19 pandemic, the demand for leisure and business travel surged. Air Transat's pilots ensured that the Company's aircraft and its passengers were transported safely and efficiently to their destinations. Their commitment to maintaining the highest safety standards while managing increased flight schedules contributed significantly to the Company's impressive performance."

More than ever, Air Transat must prioritize the retention of its pilots. Between January 2022 and July 2023, more than 15 percent of the Air Transat pilots have left the Company, averaging a loss of six pilots per month. This concerning trend threatens to disrupt the Company's planned expansion, especially at a time when Air Transat has achieved record profitability. To sustain their positive momentum and ensure the success of Air Transat growth initiatives, swift action is imperative to retain qualified pilots and preserve the expertise and experience that they bring to the Company."

Founded in 1931, ALPA is the world’s largest airline pilot union, representing more than 75,000 pilots at 43 airlines in the United States and Canada. Visit alpa.org or follow us on Twitter @ALPAPilots.
