ALPA's Membership Demographics by Age
A banner year of organizing, ALPA ended 2023 representing more than 77,000 pilots who fly for 43 U.S. and Canadian airlines. With the addition of new pilot groups, retirements, and pilots new to the profession, the demographics of the union continue to change every year. Today, the Association’s members fall into four universally accepted generational categories: Baby Boomers, Generation X, Generation Y (Millennials), and Generation Z*. Acknowledging and understanding age-related differences is crucial in determining how the Association can most effectively engage and communicate with members, bridge generational divides, and foster stronger unity within its pilot community.
