Flight Time & Duty Time Regulations

Alt text

Canadian airline pilots deserve flight- and duty-time regulations that prioritize safety, prevent fatigue, and protect passengers and crew.

Protecting Pilots & Passengers from Fatigue

Fatigue poses a serious safety risk to aviation. Flight- and duty-time regulations, introduced in 2018, help ensure that pilots are well-rested and fit to fly—a major step forward for aviation safety in Canada.

We support these regulations and strongly oppose any efforts to weaken or suspend them. Granting exemptions to commercial operators would compromise safety and put both pilots and passengers at risk.

Strengthening Oversight & Accountability

Current regulations allow air operators to adjust certain limits under a Fatigue Risk Management System (FRMS)—but only if they can prove an equivalent level of safety. We continue to advocate for strong oversight and accountability to ensure fatigue mitigation measures are effective and uphold the regulations’ original intent.

As Canada’s aviation industry evolves, we’re committed to working with government and industry stakeholders to strengthen safety standards and ensure pilots operate under protections that put safety first.

Canadian aviation has long been recognized for its high safety standards. We cannot afford to weaken safety measures, such as our flight-time and duty-time regulations, in pursuit of cost-cutting or convenience. Aviation safety should never be compromised.
