Pivot Airlines Sees Growth on the Horizon

Pivot Airlines pilots saw significant changes in 2024, as the company looks to restructure and position itself for growth. A big part of Pivot's growth plan is closely linked to its new ownership structure and future flying opportunities under the Connect Airlines brand.

Last summer, Pivot moved its headquarters from Toronto to Waterloo, Ont. Also at that time, the airline was sold to Pivot Holding Company Canada, Inc., a consortium made up of existing Pivot management (a 75.1 percent stake) and minority shareholder Smart Green Aviation Group (a 24.9 percent stake), a Boston, Mass.-based aviation company. Through its partial ownership of Pivot, Smart Green Aviation is working to develop regional airline opportunities for Pivot under the Connect Airlines brand.

Pivot Pilots Seek New Agreement

In fall 2024, the airline announced plans to launch scheduled service operating four or five airplanes, slowly building a fleet of up to 30 aircraft. CRJ200s will be used for the launch; but for the long term, the airline intends to operate Dash 8-Q400s.

Pivot is also working with the pilots to reestablish training and mentorship programs to attract future pilots to the airline.

Amid the airline's restructuring and growth, the pilots are currently in contract negotiations seeking a new agreement with improved working conditions to attract new pilots and retain current ones.
