PSA Pilots Advance Scheduling and Contract Improvements
Last year, PSA Airlines pilot leaders and a team of pilot volunteers worked to implement a preferential bidding system (PBS) that would improve the pilot group’s quality of life. The pilots’ Master Executive Council tasked its PBS team with leading the way, and after years of planning and testing, the PBS live bidding began in August.
PSA is the first wholly owned American Eagle subsidiary to move from a manual schedule-generation process to trip-construction and pairing-generation software. In 2025, the Negotiating Committee is negotiating with management over an agreement on the permanent parameters for the full implementation of the PBS, which will need to be ratified by the pilot group.
Ongoing Contract Enhancements and Fleet Growth
In addition to scheduling improvements, the MEC has worked diligently over the past few years to improve pilot pay and quality of life, with the pilots ratifying a contract extension in June 2022, along with seven letters of agreement, extending the contract to April 1, 2028.
To support growth associated with the opening of a domicile in Dallas/Fort Worth, Tex., PSA acquired 14 CRJ900NGs from CityJet in November. The first aircraft will enter service in July 2025, with the final aircraft entering service in August 2026, bringing the airline’s total fleet to 155 aircraft.
The new PSA agreements will not only help PSA hire and retain quality pilots, but will set the standard for other regional carriers to follow suit.
