The Air Line Pilots Association, Int'l was conceived and unofficially organized in 1930. Its organizational structure was officially established and ratified in 1931.
Among its stated objectives are to provide representation for all members of the airline piloting profession, promote the interests of the profession, and safeguard the rights of its members, both individually and collectively. The Association is committed to ensuring the safety of scheduled air transportation, recognizing the trust and responsibility placed on its members. It works to advance the professional image of airline pilots in the business and educational communities and with the public. It also upholds the right of collective bargaining to maintain fair agreements regarding pay, work rules, and conditions, while resolving disputes between members and their employers.
